Trout fishing in a flooded meadow

I prep my gear with the intention of checking every inch. In hand my Megabass Shoreluck XX SLX-83UL, Shimano Rarenium 2500 combo and all I have for lures are two Pontoon 21 Greedy Guts size 44. Plentiful fallen flooded trees, stumps, branches, casting has to be precise. I get my first strike 20min in, but no hook up. Seemed like a trout around ~30cm. 2 hours later I finish the first pass through the meadow with no more hits. Disappointing. I decide to continue down river. The scenery drastically changes the river narrows to 1,5m., depth varies from 20cm. to 1m. The sun is scorching moving forward is getting tiresome, neck high nettle and grass is not helping, wading is not an option since the a river is so small. I push on, continue casting and have my first trout. A 20cm youngster nothing to write home about…5min later an identical trout. 2 hours later the surroundings change again this time a woodland area starts to emerge. I reel in another wee trout.

Not impressed by the size of the fish, I head back to the flooded meadow. They are definitely bigger trout there and I know the minnows I am offering are getting strikes. So I have to find the right way to present them. I slow my retrieve rate and start twitching the Greedy Guts to add another level of motion to the lure. Sure enough 20min later a ~35-40cm beauty sits in the landing net.

I take a couple of pics and let it go. Further on I lose one minnow to a stump, minutes later another trout hits the lure and a reel it in. A ~30cm this time. I decide to call it a day, feeling pooped the heat drained my energy, but altogether a great day of fishing with just a pair of Pontoon21 minnows.
