Hey Ben,
Thank you for your kind words. Cannot really consider myself a writer and have not achieved enough to be giving out advice.
But I can suggest a couple of things.

1. Keep it simple. Start a blog on Facebook. When you feel comfortable with your writing move to WordPress. Do not suggest paid platforms. By the way WordPress is not free either if you consider costs of hosting, a domain and themes.
2. Do not stop writing. Even if you think your stories are not good practice will make writing easier. With time the quality will also get better.
